Getting Around
- Public transportation in Amsterdam is excellent and includes trams, buses, metro, and ferries
- Consider renting a bike – it's the most authentic way to experience the city
- The city center is very walkable, with most attractions within a 30-minute walk of each other
- Purchase a GVB multi-day ticket or Amsterdam City Card for unlimited public transport
Local Etiquette
- Always use designated bike lanes and be aware of cyclists when walking
- Most Dutch people speak excellent English, so language is rarely a barrier
- Tipping is appreciated but not required – 5-10% for good service is normal
- Cannabis is tolerated in designated coffee shops only, not in public spaces
Food & Drink
- Try traditional Dutch foods like bitterballen, stroopwafels, and poffertjes
